1. Senior IAS officer Alok Kumar has taken over as secretary of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), country’s top anti-corruption body. Kumar, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, has also been entrusted with additional charge of Joint Secretary (Training) under the Ministry of Personnel till completion of his tenure or till posting of his successor, said an official order issued by the Ministry.
वरिष्ठ आईएएस अधिकारी अलोक कुमार ने देश की शीर्ष भ्रष्टाचार-रोधी संस्था केंद्रीय सतर्कता आयोग (सीवीसी) के सचिव के रूप में कार्यभार संभाल लिया है। मंत्रालय द्वारा जारी एक आधिकारिक आदेश में कहा गया कि असम-मेघालय कैडर के वर्ष 1984 बैच के अधिकारी कुमार को कार्मिक मंत्रालय के तहत संयुक्त सचिव (प्रशिक्षण) का अतिरिक्त प्रभार भी दिया गया है। यह अतिरिक्त प्रभार उन्हें अपना कार्यकाल पूरा होने तक या किसी नए व्यक्ति की इस पद पर नियुक्ति तक संभालना होगा।
2. As many as 55 people, including women and children, were killed and about 200 were injured in a suicide bomb attack at the Wagah checkpoint near Lahore and along the India-Pakistan border on Sunday evening. No damage was reported on the Indian side.
भारत-पाकिस्तान सीमा पर ध्वजों को नीचे उतारने के लिए आयोजित समारोह के तुरंत बाद पाकिस्तान की ओर वाघा में रविवार को हुए एक आत्मघाती विस्फोट में बच्चों और सुरक्षाकर्मियों सहित कम से कम 55 लोग मारे गए और करीब 200 अन्य घायल हो गए।
3. China has launched a spacecraft that will act as a precursor for a robotic lunar sample return mission and perhaps also help prepare for subsequent manned exploration of the Moon. A Long March-3C rocket lifted off from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre and set the spacecraft on a course for the Moon.
चीन ने आज चांद से वापसी का अपना पहला मिशन सफलतापूर्वक पूरा कर लिया और इसका मानवरहित यान धरती पर लौट आया। चंद्रमा की कक्षा में लगभग एक हफ्ते पहले भेजा गया यह चीनी परीक्षण यान चीन के इनर मंगोलिया स्वायत्त क्षेत्र में आज सुबह सिजिवांग बनेर में उतरा।
4. A passenger spaceship being developed by Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic company crashed during a test flight near the Mojave Air and Space Port in California, killing one pilot and seriously injuring the other, officials said.
वर्जिन गैलेक्टिक कंपनी का एक अंतरिक्ष यान कैलिफोर्निया में दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गया, जिससे उसके दो पायलटों में से एक की मौत हो गई। विमान का मलबा रेगिस्तान में बिखर पड़ा है। यह अंतरिक्ष यान पर्यटकों को अंतरिक्ष में ले जाने के लिए तैयार किया गया था।

Mumbai-Based NGO Apnalaya will be a beneficiary of Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography ‘Playing it My Way’ as proceeds from its sale will be given to the organisation for fighting malnutrition in children. “Sachin has committed a part of his proceeds from the sale of the autobiography to Apnalaya in their fight against Malnutrition in Children and provision of clean drinking water. The autobiography is scheduled for release on November 6,” Apnalaya said in a press release.
महान बल्लेबाज सचिन तेंदुलकर की आत्मकथा प्लेइंग इट माई वे की बिक्री से मुंबई के एनजीओ अपनालय की मदद होगी क्योंकि इस किताब की बिक्री का एक हिस्सा बच्चों में कुपोषण के खिलाफ लड़ रही इस संस्था को दिया जाएगा। अपनालय ने प्रेस विज्ञप्ति में कहा कि सचिन ने प्रतिबद्धता जताई है कि उनकी आत्मकथा की बिक्री का एक हिस्सा अपनालय को बच्चों में कुपोषण के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ने और स्वच्छ जल मुहैया कराने के लिए दिया जाएगा। आत्मकथा का विमोचन छह नवंबर को होगा।
6. Star player Saina Nehwal has gained a place to be fifth in the latest Badminton World Federation women’s singles rankings released here. Saina improved her ranking, riding on her back-to-back quarter-final appearances at Denmark and French Open tournaments this month. In both the events, she lost to World No. 2 Chinese Shixian Wang.

7. The Centre has extended the term of the 14th Finance Commission by two months. Accordingly, the Commission has got time to submit its report by December 31. The Commission is a constitutional body and its recommendations are binding on the Government.

The planet known as PH3c nearly avoided detection because it has a highly inconsistent orbit time around its Sun, due to the gravitational influence of other planets in its system.

9. 112-years-old Kunjannam Anthony is the oldest living woman in India at present, according to the Limca Book of Records. The Creative Head of Limca Book of Records (LBR) P P Peter today visited Kunjannam at the private Amala Medical College Hospital where she had been admitted for old age ailments recently and handed over the certificate of record of being the oldest woman in India.
लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकॉर्ड्स के अनुसार 112 वर्ष की कुंजन्नम एंथनी वर्तमान में भारत की सबसे वृद्ध महिला हैं। लिम्का बुक ऑफ रिकॉर्ड्स के क्रिएटिव हेड (एलबीआर) पीपी पीटर ने अमाला मेडिकल कॉलेज नाम के एक निजी अस्पताल का दौरा किया, जहां कुंजन्नम को हाल ही में भर्ती कराया गया था और वहां उन्हें भारत की सबसे वृद्ध महिला होने का प्रमाणपत्र दिया गया।

The run-up to the vote saw a spate of shelling by rebels of government positions across the conflict zone, where according to UN figures more than 4,000 people have died since fighting started around seven months ago. Ukrainian authorities announced Sunday the deaths of three soldiers and seven more wounded, adding toll of seven dead and at least six wounded.
